History of
Pretz
1962
Pretz (Soda Flavor)
The product was inspired by the pretzel, a popular German snack. It debuted with a salty flavor that goes well with beer. However, since it was sold through the confectionery retailer route, children did not enjoy the taste and sales were poor.
1963
Pretz (Butter Flavor)
Although the light, salt-flavored Pretz were not a hit with children, the shape proved appealing, so the company launched a sweet, butter-flavored version of Pretz as a snack, which sold better than expected.
